About the author: Penny has traveled the world. Before she began her travels she was a Chemistry teacher and has since taught in both Jordan and Afghanistan. She currently resides on Folly Beach.

About the book: The New Southern Table (Fair Winds Press, pb., $21.99) is a celebration of Southern food and culture. Stephens focuses on the ingredients that make Southern cuisine delicious and unique, while also showcasing how other cultures around the world have adapted varying flavor palettes with the same ingredients.

About the author: Stephens, based out of Charleston, has published his food writing in Bon Appetit, Garden and Gun, Charleston Magazine and Charleston City Paper. He is also the founder of Cookthink.com, a website dedicated to food and cooking.

Vanessa Blakeslee will be at Blue Bicycle Books Wed., May 7, 5 – 7 pm. She will be giving a reading from her debut story collection Train Shots followed by a Q&A.
About the author: Vanessa has had her work published in The Southern Review, Green Mountains Review, The Paris Review Daily, among many others. She earned her MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania, she is a longtime resident of Maitland, Florida.

16th Annual Bridge Run Show — Thurs., Apr. 3, 7:30 pm. Sara Peck, Cameron Jones and Jonathan Sanchez will each take the mic for about 5 minutes in this annual staff reading. None of us are as cute as this girl, but you get the idea.

Barbara Hagerty
Barbara Hagerty (Twinzilla) and Marjory Wentworth (New & Selected Poems) will speak and sign copies of their new books of verse at a special Poet’s luncheon at Halls Chophouse (434 King St) Fri., Apr. 25, 12 pm.

About the authors: Barbara Hagerty is a poet, writer, photographer and visual essayist who was born in Charleston, SC. She lives with her husband and children in South Carolina, where she divides her time between Charleston and Edisto Island.
Marjory Wentworth is the Poet Laureate of South Carolina. Her poems have appeared in numerous books, magazines, and anthologies. She has been nominated for The Pushcart Prize five times. Ms. Wentworth teaches poetry to cancer patients in “Expressions of Healing” at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. She also teaches Creative Writing and English at The Art Institute of Charleston.

Our 2014 Write of Summer dates are up and registration is now open for our twelfth summer. We have seven weeks to choose from this year, both downtown and in Mt. Pleasant.
Sessions take place Monday through Friday, 9 am to noon. Each session costs $165, $175 after June 1.
